Exploring Rio Cuale
By DevSupport on May 10, 2013
Right in the heart of Puerto Vallarta, just
off the iconic Malecon overlooking the waters of Banderas Bay, is the lovely,
shady Rio Cuale Island, a hub of shopping, dining and cultural activities in
the city.
The bustling
marketplace is an ideal spot to find Mexican handicrafts such as hand knotted
hammocks and painted ceramics. You can
also find a nice selection of Mexican vanilla in pretty bottles that make for
nice hostess gifts or presents for family back home. There are bargains to be had on Rio Cuale so
make sure you ask for the “best price†especially if you’re paying cash or
buying more than one item.
On the far end
of the island is the Rio Cuale Cultural Center where you will find musicians
rehearsing and artists working on paintings, sculptures and carvings. Feel free to stop and watch as the artists
enjoy having the creation of their work appreciated.
For some
historical background of the people native to the Puerto Vallarta region, visit
the Rio Cuale Museum, a small but interesting space exhibiting archeological
and anthropologic information about the first peoples of Banderas Bay.
And some of the
best Puerto Vallarta restaurants are located on Rio Cuale Island including
Oscars, The River Café and Le Bistro Jazz Café.
Diners can enjoy live music, beautiful river views and fine cuisine at
any of these popular Vallarta restaurants.
