The Oscars are coming up… are you ready?

It is that time of year again when the glossy and glamorous
film stars gather in LA with ridiculously expensive accessories and immaculate
outfits to receive and present the 85^th
Academy Awards. 

We are a little slow on the uptake here in Mexico to get to
see these great films prior to the awards and this year is no exception.
However, keep checking the local listings and shortly we will see the release
of Amour,
Lincoln, Tarantino’s newest
adventure Django Unchained and
the adaptation of Victor Hugo’s classic Les Miserables all have rave reviews
and are sure to keep us enthralled. Some inspiring performances from Bradley
Cooper, Joaquin Phoenix, Denzel Washington, Daniel Day-Lewis, Hugh Jackman and
Naomi Watts will surely be recognized by the Academy.

Currently playing here in Vallarta is The Life of Pi, nominated for the Best Picture category. It will be the 5^th nomination for
the Director Ang Lee (previously nominated for Brokeback Mountain in 2005 and
Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon in 2000) and the 2^nd for Gil Netter
(for The Blind Side in 2009). Based on the book follows Pi, the son of zookeepers in Pondicherry,
India, who finds the world he knows swept away when his family sells the zoo
and sets sail for Canada with a few of its remaining animals.  A storm
capsizes the ship and only Pi escapes, set adrift in a lifeboat that is also
the refuge of an enormous Bengal tiger. 

If you haven’t already seen this
beautiful, adventurous film then you still have time to catch it playing here
locally at Cinemark, Cinemex and also Cinepolis.
