Air Conditioner Advice
By DevSupport on May 18, 2016
The weather has that tell-tale touch of humidity in the air, signaling that the summer months are beginning in Puerto Vallarta. While summer has some big advantages like “reclaiming” the city from the tourist crowds and the gorgeous lush look of our Sierra Madre jungle, the temperature does rise and for many, the use of the ac units in their Puerto Vallarta home rises with it.
We found some advice that we shared with our readers in 2014 on ways to best maintain your the air conditioners in your Puerto Vallarta homes and though that they were worth revisiting:
An air conditioner is a very tough piece of equipment but like a car, air conditioners need regular tune-ups to run properly. Without regular maintenance an air conditioner loses about 5% of its original efficiency for each year of operation but you can recover most of that lost efficiency through regular maintenance. Studies show that with regular tune-ups a unit will maintain up to 95% of its original efficiency. This means that the cost of an annual servicing is recovered very quickly in savings on your monthly electric bill and reduced repair costs. A properly serviced air conditioner will also do a better job of dehumidifying your home, helping to keep mold out of your home.
A technician should clean the condensing unit coils, oil the fan motors, check that belts are well adjusted, and check the system operating pressures and temperatures against the manufacturer specifications. A quick flip through the Puerto Vallarta Yellow Pages will find you many listings for air conditioner repairs or check with your building or property manager for recommendations.
